The New Age of Mobile Gambling

When the internet was very new to the average home user, the very first thing that was important about it was the ability to socially network with e-mail, instant messenger programs, and chat rooms.  Through the discovery of this new social medium, users learned to play games with one another to keep the boredom away, at home as well as at work.  Not long after that, users learned that they could bet on games that traditionally were games that would be bet upon in a face-to-face game.  Money transfers were relatively easy, and keeping track of turns and scores was even easier now that the computer was here to help.  An thus, internet gambling was born.

Now there is a new generation of internet gamblers; the mobile gamblers.  Mobile gambling is the same as internet gambling, but it is done from a remote location, such as a laptop or a cell phone with internet capability.  Mobile gambling was born for those who wanted to play while away from home or work, but it now serves a different purpose.

In 2006, President George W. Bush passed a bill that restricts the ability of US financial institutions to transfer money for gambling in areas where gambling is prohibited.  Because of all the new restrictions, many gambling websites decided to no longer accept payment from American users, meaning Americans could no longer gamble online.

However, with a device that can connect to a remote server, such as a laptop or a cell phone, there are ways around the restrictions.  If you can connect remotely to a network, then you can connect to a network that accepts American money, and then you are free to play as you wish.

Some sites, at this point, are catching on and shutting down mobile gambling function, but some sites are embracing the increased revenue and lack of repercussions from the US government.  Since its invention, mobile gambling applications have become more entertaining, more advanced, and more easily accessible.  It seems Americans may have found their way around the rigid restrictions that were slipped into a shoreline security bill without notice.

The iPhone, by Apple, started a trend that caught on worldwide which made internet gambling from a remote host much more accessible.  The “apps,” or applications, that the iPhone allow you to run include hundreds of gambling apps, for everything from poker to roulette to blackjack and even slots.  Never one to be outdone, Google followed Apple’s example and allowed “apps” to be added to homepages. Now, almost every cell phone has addable apps, and many of them also involve gambling.

Gambling online just got easier, and the face of the internet has changed again.
